American Board of Plastic Surgery

The American Board of Plastic surgeons formed in 1931 consists of surgeons experienced in plastic surgery. They are experienced in the field and qualified surgeons who have come together to form this board. Its main motive is to promote ethical activities in the field of plastic surgery. They aspire to maintain standards, teach the doctors new techniques and assess their work. They also aim to have proper documentation and certification of surgeons to have a certain professionalism and authenticity.

In order to become a member of the American board of Plastic Surgeons there are certain important criterions that have to be followed. Firstly the surgeon must have completed his graduation in general surgery from a reputed medical college. The surgeon must have a certificate to discover medicine in the state. He should have an experience and must submit his photographs with the board. The written assessments conducted by the board are mandatory for every surgeon who wants to become a member. It is essential that he clears all these assessments successfully. He must have an experience in the field of plastic surgery for at the most 2 years.

The main functions of the board include credentials to the members or those who are a art of the board under its guidelines. They asses the credibility’s of candidates who aim to be members of the board. They also conduct training session and then provide certificates to the participants. They also include activities which are linked to their objectives.

The board has certain rules and regulations. It maintains the control from prejudiced and competent opinions and self-competence which can control plastic surgery. They can reconsider the thoughts over the credentials of only those who have written and signed. It is necessary that the candidate is mentally and physically fit and professionally competent to become a member.

After clearance of all the written assessments, it is mandatory for the Board to clear all documents. They will certify the candidate and issue a certificate. On issuance of this certificate, the candidate is now officially a ‘diplomat of the board.’. in case of any discrepancies in the professional conduct of the member, the certification can be cancelled. The board also takes care of it members by giving them certain health benefits and professional benefits. Being a member is important for surgeons across America as it will help them serve their patients better and acquire new knowledge.
